Join our team as an Account Manager!
This is a fixed hybrid role being onsite in Maple Plain, MN on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
As an Account Manager at Protolabs, you’ll be the strategic partner and primary point of contact for a portfolio of 25–100 key customers who rely on our industry‑leading digital manufacturing solutions. Your mission is to strengthen relationships, uncover opportunities, and deliver exceptional customer experiences that drive retention, satisfaction, and long‑term business growth.
In this role, you’ll dive deep into your customers’ business goals, challenges, and product roadmaps—then collaborate with them to co‑create solutions using Protolabs’ full suite of services. By building strong coaches and champions within each organization, you’ll play a critical role in expanding wallet share, increasing operational efficiency, and delivering value that benefits both the customer and Protolabs.
You’ll leverage customer‑centric tools, ongoing training, and our cross‑functional ecosystem to guide complex accounts from concept through production. You will:
- Align with customer KPI’s and utilizes Protolabs business analytics (technology, SFDC, DOMO, best practices, etc.) within various levels of the customer's product life cycle & service lines.
- Understands customer's business and uses that knowledge to provide solutions to penetrate the account.
- Sell across all service lines and aligns the customer to Protolabs full product life cycle capabilities to create competitive advantage.
- Fluent in key value propositions and customer bottleneck/objections and can map a product life cycle supply chain from source to end customer.
- Leverage account team members(s) and other internal resources toward achieving customer expectations and growing account value.
- Accountable for operational results and connected to operational excellence but spends less than 75% of time on day-to-day account operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
What it takes:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field OR equivalent education and/or experience
- 2+ years of experience with Business to Business (B2B) Sales.
- Consistent high performer with proven record of growing sustainable customer business partnerships.
- Good grasp of how to develop and drive customer growth through projects, programs, and agreements.
- Ability to build and sustain internal relationships across Protolabs' ecosystems.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with customer coaches and champions to provide creative solutions and resolve customer conflicts.
- Experience with CRM tools for managing the sales process and forecasting to provide further insight into other department stakeholders.
- Familiar with all of Protolabs’ service lines, understand the manufacturing product life cycle, and how to connect customer needs with Protolabs’ capabilities in our full-service offering.
- Ability to proactively source leads and identify new business opportunities by maintaining a robust pipeline.
- Proficient presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written inside and outside the organization.
- Possesses an understanding for engaging in high-level conversations related to manufacturing and engineering.
- Self-motivated and results-driven, with a dedicated focus on achieving/exceeding sales goals.
- Proficient problem solving and negotiation skills for project requirements, customer documentation conversations, and financial conversations.

The base salary range for this role is $50,000-$65,000 USD/year with a Total Cash range of $70,000 - $100,000.
Protolabs offers a competitive total rewards package, and compensation mix vary based on position, such as base wage, as well as other earnings including incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, job function, work experience, specialized skills, training, education, and certifications.

Physical Demands:

Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
